That does not mean I have to be a fan of it.Ĭareer is still broken over a year later. But given "Codemasters" are a software-studio specialised on games and not on high-security data-infrastructure, I can sort of see some merit to their argument for this a-a-scheme.

Regarding my criticism of always-online career: There would be other ways to prevent "cheating" without essentially real-time online-tracking of your every move. The cars' physics and handling are nicer as in closer to reality in 2.0 though. with not being able to progress career-status (basically earning credits through competing in quasi-offline as well as tracked-online "community events" and upgrading your "fleet") without a continuous internet-connection available, then you still can enjoy the upgraded physics and the new and refurbished locations DR 2.0 brings with it.ĭirt Rally 1 did the "career"-part offline though, so if you have not yet played that one, it is probably a better fit if you prefer not being dependant on internet-access. This is also a valid piece of information, so thanks for chiming Murderer I live in the middle of nowhere and I have 6 meg internet btw, over 200 hours into DiRT Rally 2.0 and over all that time only had 1 racenet issue so far. Also note that every vehicle is unlocked to drive in freeplay as well as track. Offline (freeplay) has several fun game modes and custom game modes. The only reason I am going "D'accord" with this, is because the community-online events in the first game were the part which hooked me the most on dirt rally. I know because that is what I bought.īuttom line: the always-online component is not a technical necessity, but a path to extract as much information and money out of the player-base as humanly (or inhumanely) possible. Coincidentally most if not all cars you list are part of the upsell called "deluxe-edition". Thankfully Codies are working hard to end such cheating. I mean, how awful would it be if someone used a trainer to instantly unlock Stratos, Escort Mk2, Sport Quattro S1 E2, Impreza 1995 and Fiesta OMSE, or used a trainer to get upgraded My Team starter cars, or used a trainer to get an extra one million credits, while legit players earn them by playing the game. They also said something about cheaters using trainers to progress career, which is unfair against people who progress their careers legit. Of course that does not in any way explain why you can't play career (as opposed to online events) offline. Official reason is cheaters on leaderboards.
